Game Analysis: Sept. 6 vs Astros

Tonight was a rainy night in Pittsburgh and that cetainly did nothing to help the struggling pirates offense. A struggling Brett Myers was on the mound tonight for the Astros and the Pirates once again made a mediocre pithcher look like an ace. Ryan Doumit provided the highlight of the night was his solo homer. Another positive from this game was the strong outing from Brad Lincoln. Brad made another strong case for being a part of next years rotation with his 6 inning, 2 run start, with 6 strikeouts. Lincoln's magnificent curveball was once again on display to go along with a nice lower 90s fastball.
Andrew McCutchen and Pedro Alvarez looked lost at the plate again tonight. These two players have the highest potential in the lineup and need to make strides sooner rather than later to reach that potential. McCutchen appears to just be worn down from a long season amd his slump is understandable and I fully expect him to be his usually self next year. Pedro Alvarez has a much larger question mark next to his name amd I will go into detail about my thoughts on Pedro in a future post. If I had to rate tbis game on the scouting scale (20-80), I would give it a 40, which is that high only because of Brad Lincoln's performance.
